Greetings from your Past President

One more message…

I’d like to thank all the members who participated at the pot luck AGM. There were over 40 of us present to enjoy a wonderful meal. We handed out trophies (check our website to see the different categories and their winners). We also heard from Penny Stewart, president of district 3, who sent greetings from the OHA.

We also elected a new board of directors:

R. John Garside, Nancy Kish, Sally Clark, Darlene Johnston, John Clark, Kathy Kingsley-Bondy, Ursula Cattelan, Cathie Coultis (new board member), and Lise Bois (as past president)

The new board looks forward to continue the work that has been successful, the Garden Show (Saturday, June 15th) and the garden tour (Sunday, June 16th) so stay tuned for more info.

I want to thank Hedy Brambat-Keller for her outstanding work on the garden show. Thank you Carson Arthur for your support and good cheer. Thank you also Sheila Simmons, for your guidance as past president. Your knowledge was very much appreciated. It was a great team!

I’d like to thank Darlene Johnston for submitting a beautiful tree she created, on our behalf, for the Festival of Trees.

Thank you Bert Jenkins for the beautiful photos of all out mini shows and Garden show. Please look at our website to see all of Bert’s photographs.

And speaking of website, thank you Andy Bowers for managing our site.

There is one last request for all the members. We need everyone to look at the Financial Report (sent by email) and vote your approval of the Report by Tuesday December 18, 2018 via a reply email. Please follow instructions on how to proceed.

Thank you very much for your cooperation.

I wish all of you the best of holidays with your loved ones.

I will be looking forward to January and all the seed catalogues that come my way.

See you all in February. Our first meeting of the year will be Wednesday, February 27th.

Pot Luck

Note that this month, we have our AGM & Pot Luck and remember to bring your plates, glasses & cutlery!!

Our AGM will be on Wednesday the 28th at 6 pm. Please note the time.

President’s Message

Winter definitely seems to be upon us. The last of my flowers (asters) were still blooming last weeks and still looks beautiful in their frozen state. I have left most of my plants standing with their seedheads intact so birds will have some extra food this winter. It looks kind of messy but I tell myself I’ll have more energy to clean come the spring anyway…

It is with a bit of sadness that I write this post as it will likely be my last. It’s that time of year where we have our elections for board members. I have been privileged, for the past two year, to be the hort. soc. president. I have learned so much and have made many new friends. I’ve enjoyed being part of an amazing board of directors. Everyone was incredibly committed to making our society exciting and interesting!

Our AGM will be on Wednesday the 28th at 6 pm. Please note the time.

We still need a couple of members willing to sit on the board and someone to take the role of president.

So if you’re interested and need more information, please contact me.

We will share a pot luck dinner before the “official meeting”. This meeting will be very short so we can spend more time enjoying each other’s company.

We will supply turkey and stuffing. We ask that you bring, if possible, a side/veggie dish, a salad or a dessert. We will also supply tea, coffee or juice.

Please bring your plate, glass and cutlery.

I look very much forward to seeing all of you at the meeting next Wednesday.

President’s Message

First, let me thank all of you who sent me kind words on the passing of my brother. I really appreciated it.

Summer has now come and gone. It almost always seems to catch us of guard. The ice on my bird feeders this morning certainly confirmed that winter is on the way. It’s time to make one last pass in the garden.

At this month’s meeting we are pleased to have Kevin Halloran and Sharon Toth guide us as to when and how to prune our trees and shrubs.

Membership fees are due this month. It’s still just $15.00 for a single and $25.00 for a family membership. We will be issuing membership cards that will be valid from Oct. 2018 to Oct. 2019.

As our meeting falls on Halloween night please feel free to wear some kind of costume. We will have special treats for everyone.

Next month on November 28th will be our AGM. At this meeting we will have a pot luck dinner (the society provides turkeys and cranberry sauce) and the election of our board of directors.

The members of the Nomination Committee are Lise Bois (lisefbois@gmail.com), Sally Clark (sallyisinoakville@gmail.com) and John Clark (johnclarkinthecounty@gmail.com).

Board members willing to do another term are :

R. John Garside Secretary
— withdrawn — Treasurer
John Clark Promotion
Sally Clark Membership
Kathy Kingsley-Bondy Mini Shows
Hedy Brambat-Kellar Vendor Coordinator for garden show
Darlene Johnston Refreshments and 50/50 draw
Nancy Kish Garden Tour Coordinator

As my two year term is up, I will be stepping down as president. I will continue to sit on the board as past president.

Ideally, we would like another board member and someone willing to be president.

If you or someone you know is interested in being on the board, please email me, Sally or John Clark.

I hope to see you at the meeting this month.

Lise
