Society Meeting for March 29

Lise Bois opened the meeting and welcomed members and guests.

Lise talked about our upcoming garden show. Lise also asked that members either start a few extra seeds for our plant sale or “pot up” some of the extras when they divide their plants in the spring. She talked about the new informal planter/container category which will be based on these four themes: edible, colour, Canada’s 150th, and repurposed/recycled containers.

We are part of District 3 which will be hosting the OHA 2018 convention in Kingston on July 27th to the 29th. The theme is ‘Shore to Shield’. If members are interested in volunteering they can contact Lise.

Presentation

Peggy DeWitt presented a slide show on “photographing flowers” at our Wednesday, March 29th meeting.

Peggy is a well known local photographer whose books, cards and calendars in many of the county’s galleries, bookstores and tourist venues.

She showed us how to look for focal points, lighting, composition and proper focus when photographing our gardens. She also talked about the use of special filters and lenses to create some very beautifully interesting pictures of flowers.

I think she inspired us to take a more appreciative look at all our flowers and the beautiful insects that visit them.
