Society Meeting for May 31

Lise Bois opened the meeting and welcomed over 25 members and more than 12 4H members to our meeting.

Announcements

Lise reminded members of all the features of the upcoming (just two week away!) Garden and Flower Show, noting that complete details – including the Flower Show classes list [375 kb pdf] – were on the web site.

Presentations

Perennial Flower Show trophy winners Sandra Dowds and Pat Stuckey did a fabulous presentation on how and what to enter in the flower show. Sandra had samples of different stems and showed us how to prepare them for the show. It’s hoped that the presentation will encourage many members to participate.

Bob Simmons gave a brief talk on invasive species that are now proliferating due to the abundant rains.

You can visit the Ontario invasive plants website to get more information.

Our guest speaker was Rosemary Tayler from Earth Haven Learning Center who is a writer and editor for Celestial Calendar Gardening.

She instructed us on the rhythms of the moon and the optimum times to plant, weed and harvest our crops.

She also gave all of us samples of lobster meal garden soil amendment. It was a wonderful presentation!

50/50 Draw

Ellen Jablonicky was the winner of the 50/50 draw. She donated her winnings back to the society. Thank you Ellen.

Next month it could be YOU (if you buy a ticket).
