Guest Speaker: Ben O’Brien, Wild by Design
Inspired by work in the US and Europe, Ben O’Brien, owner of Wild by Design, has been experimenting with gravel gardens, and their applications in public landscapes. Since 2018 Ben has managed the “Growing Grit” trial garden at Athol Central School in Cherry Valley.
At our October meeting Ben will discuss his experience growing a range of perennials and grasses in gravel-based substrates and how these substrates can both reduce maintenance time, and create long-lasting, resilient, biodiverse plant communities.
Weather-permitting, there will be a tour of Ben’s gravel garden at the Community Living offices across the street from the Picton Town Hall.
