Just returned from the Ontario Horticultural Association Convention in Kitchener/Waterloo. Mennonite gardens-farms and Um Pa Pa bands. Fantastic Seminar by Thelma Beaubien on Gardening for Butterflies. She is also an award winning photographer, author, rears Butterflies through caterpillar stage and records all. She observed that butterflies fly in a north south axis for plants to land on. Book available on line.
NEXT OHA or Garden Ontario Convention is in Richmond Hill on July 21-23, 2017 , OHA Dist. 5. Also Canada’s 150 th birthday. If you have not been to one, experience it before our District 3 with Penny Stewart will be hosting in 2018.
We have 16 Societies. North – Bancroft; South – PEC; W – Trenton; E – Brockville. We will need many volunteers and ideas.
With the Flower Show (part of the County Garden Show) coming soon, the presentation for the member’s meeting was topical.
Rose Odell, Vice President OHA, demonstrated the elements of entry preparation for a juried flower show with examples of her own (shown above). Members then went on to prepare their own under guidance and encouragement from Rose.
